The artist Paul McCarthy was on tremendous kind throughout a panel dialogue at Artwork Basel Miami Seaside earlier this month on the obtuse subject of “Intersections in Artwork: the Many Worlds of Worldbuilding”. McCarthy plumbs the darkest depths of human behaviour in his artwork, creating controversial work together with efficiency items by which the artist and the German actress Lilith Stangenberg costume as Hitler and Eva Braun. In Miami, McCarthy revealed that he hoped to purchase Michael Jackson’s former house and personal amusement park, Neverland, following the pop star’s dying in 2009. “I attempted to purchase Neverland. I got here shut. That was the work—to purchase Neverland,” he advised fairgoers. What else is on his bucket checklist? “I’ve a Santa Claus film I need to make. Santa Claus is a company illness.” Which makes us marvel: did McCarthy get a go to from the person with the white beard for Christmas?
