Bank of Namibia Issues First Provisional Licenses Under Virtual Asset Act to 2 Crypto Firms

Financial institution of Namibia grants provisional licenses to Mindex Digital Asset Trade and Landifa Bitcoin Commerce below the Digital Asset Act of 2023, marking a step towards regulated cryptocurrency operations.

Financial institution of Namibia Takes a Step Towards Cryptocurrency Regulation

The Financial institution of Namibia introduced on January 13, 2025, that it has granted provisional authorization to 2 entities “Mindex Digital Asset Trade (Pty) Ltd and Landifa Bitcoin Commerce CC” to function as digital asset service suppliers (VASPs). These authorizations are a part of the framework established by Namibia’s Digital Asset Act of 2023 (Act No. 10 of 2023).

Two-Step Licensing Course of for Full Authorization

The provisional approval marks step one in a two-stage course of. In keeping with the central financial institution, the entities should meet specified regulatory situations throughout the six-month provisional interval to qualify for full authorization. Throughout this time, the VASPs are restricted from conducting any enterprise or participating with people or entities in Namibia.

The central financial institution emphasised that this restriction ensures compliance with regulatory necessities earlier than operations start.

Namibia Joins Different African Nations in Crypto Regulation

Namibia follows within the footsteps of Nigeria and South Africa, which have already licensed some VASPs. The transfer aligns with Namibia’s efforts to control and legalize cryptocurrency utilization, an initiative that gained momentum with the passage of the Digital Asset Act in 2023. The act goals to guard shopper pursuits and fight monetary crimes, together with cash laundering linked to digital belongings.

The Financial institution of Namibia reiterated its dedication to making a safe, regulated monetary setting. It assured the general public that it could present common updates on the progress of the licensed entities.
